Goldsboro and Wayne County are steeped in history and tradition.
Like many towns in Eastern North Carolina, the railroad was the impetus of our growth. Evidenced by many older “Victorian era homes” on stately, tree lined streets, the prosperity of our community is historically traced.
The housing boom following World War II and the Korean War brought many new subdivisions in the '50's and '60's that have matured into beautiful, quiet, shaded neighborhoods. Ahh the '90's. We received our fair share of the economic boom.
As a result, Wayne County boasts many new subdivisions out in the country in any price range desired. And our growth goes on. With such regional economic centers as Greenville forty-five minutes to the northeast, Raleigh an hour to the west, and Wilmington an hour and a half to the southeast, Goldsboro and Wayne County are becoming the communities of choice for quality of life at affordable prices. Our choices of entertainment and recreation are almost endless. Both our City and County Parks and Recreation Departments offer many organized sports opportunities.
The “Cliffs of the Neuse” State Park, situated in the heart of Wayne County, offers days of hiking, canoeing, campimg and swimming. Our Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation sponsors many festivals and concerts on an annual basis, along with its constant involvement with revitalization of the economic area that made us great.
Not only is our Arts Council very active, but their creativity is unsurpassed. Goldsboro's close proximity to the coast makes day trips too easy. And being within an easy 4-5 hour drive of the mountains makes weekend trips to the slopes almost restful.
Many “Airmen” were stationed at SJAFB and when “there hitch was up” decided to call our community home. They became the “mover and shakers” that have helped make Goldsboro and Wayne County so great.
Can
you tell we are excited about our community? Don't take our word for it. Check us out. Pay us a visit. We'll be glad to show you around. Once we get you here we know you'll never want to leave.
